The volume and tone control potentiometers worked out well. You can essentially turn off the E string with the tone control, or leave the tone completely unaffected. The volume control can go from nothing to as much as the pick-up will deliver. Despite using the same pots and capacitor used on a guitar, which are tuned a full octave lower than a mandolin, the pots still allow for plenty of control. The mandolin also sounds descent played without amplification.
